Being initially drawn by the shadows of trees she observed in the grass, she did a lot of studying a method that did not convey the selected subject as a 2-dimensional representation on canvas. The image has been transformed to it's own representation, and the surface takes its interpretation from the artist. It is most effective when working with living things or objects that can be perishable such as fruits or people. Alexa's style of painting is one of ephemeral, and only images of her work are preserved. Since the painting and photographic methods are closely coordinated and result in an illusion of trompe l'oeil, that creates the illusion of three dimensions appears only at specific points, such as the area around the eyes and the hair. Sometimes, Meade integrates her painted models into the 3D space around them, allowing them to interact within their own self-created environment. In this way, she blurs the lines between photography, painting installation and performance.
